As rain drops cascaded in showers of grey, and puddles reflected the street, we walked through the town on a chill summer day, in search of a venue to eat.
We found a small coffee shop open with space to sit by the window a while. A French vintage aura pervaded the place, conveyed in bohemian style.
We drank cappuccinos while sharing a cake with generous layers of rose and strawberry icing; the type people bake for special occasions and shows.
We gazed out the window and pondered the rain, deciding to wait for a pause, whilst speaking of visiting China by plane and flying to far away shores.
The rain cleared away and went for a walk, observing the shops in the square; a place about which we would probably talk, remembering when we were there.
Pink Rose Icing is a poem I wrote recently about visiting a coffee shop in a small town with the family. We spent a very pleasant afternoon together even though it was raining and cold. I wrote this poem to celebrate the moment and preserve the memory of it.
