Dying Flight

Dying Flight Trees in Autumn

Like butterflies with bronze and golden wings,
that flutter to the earth in dying flight,
the autumn leaves descend as summer sings
her final anthem in the fading light.

As if to form a withered copper shroud,
they lie in fragile stillness on the ground;
their verdant majesty that once rose proud,
subdued upon the dust without a sound.
