Daffodils

Daffodils

Sprouting fingers digging slowly,
through the damp amorphous earth.
Upward grasping, focused wholly,
labouring in verdant birth.

Breaking through the surface finding
open air and pallid light.
Heavy clay no longer binding,
foetal buds held small and tight.

Blossomed petals brightly dancing;
yellow rippled skirts that twirl.
Nature’s nimble steps advancing,
swiftly, spring’s lush gowns unfurl.
