How is Artificial Intelligence Affecting Creativity?

It is probably rather obvious that artificial intelligence is affecting creativity in quite a dramatic way. We seem to be accelerating towards an era where it will be difficult to envisage life without robotic assistance.

Even now, it is almost second nature for many content creators to type a prompt into the latest copywriting application. Statistics published by HubSpot show that almost half of all marketers are utilising some form of artificial intelligence to generate written content.

I recently saw a video of a man who demonstrated how it took him a few minutes to create a series of illustrated blog articles that were scheduled to be published every week for the next seven years. They were all on the topic of camping equipment. It is hard to imagine anything more boring or superfluous than that!

How is Google likely to respond?

It seems inevitable that Google will pick up on that and take exception to it. Creating that amount of irrelevant spam should probably constitute some sort of crime. I would not imagine that you can game the system to that extent and get away with it.

It is also somewhat disconcerting to wonder how much of what I am reading was written by a robot. As far as the way in which artificial intelligence is affecting creativity, I think there will be a trend turning back towards authentic human creation. We all long to communicate and express ourselves in some way. We also want to know what other people are thinking and saying. I certainly have no wish to be bamboozled into being impressed by the eloquence of an article that was generated by a mindless application.

How will we respond in the future?

We may actually start to value poor grammar and awkwardly constructed sentences as the hallmarks of true human endeavour. Who can say what the eventual outcome will be? Sensitively communicated narratives written by humans might become as rare as garments stitched by hand.

I cannot help smiling at the thought of it. Even better will be those literary works that have not been search engine optimised. Their pure authenticity will be difficult to find on that internet for that very reason!

Artificially generated writing is useful if you want to read about how to unblock a drain or change a tyre. It just does not work as well for reflecting the faint nuances of the human heart.

At this point, you probably have questions about the origin of this article. Was it written by a human or is it the work of a devious robot intent on gaslighting you? You need not fear on that account. These are the true thoughts and feelings of a real human. The images are artificially generated but you can look at them as an authentic representation of my imagination.

I have no idea where the future will take us. As long as I am free to dream and create, I will remain enthusiastic about the journey.
